Per N.J.A.C. 13:59-1, the SBI may only release CHRIs to the following eligible persons and entities:

  • Federal and state government entities for official government purposes, such as employment or licensing screening purposes, and the procurement of services.
  • Private persons or non-governmental entities that want to determine the record subject’s qualification for employment, volunteer work, or other performance of service. 
  • Licensed attorneys who want to use the record in any contested matter docketed in a state or federal court or New Jersey administrative agencies
  • Private detectives licensed by the Division of State Police who need the record to perform their statutory functions
  • The subject of the record.

Note that eligible individuals may conduct name-based and fingerprint-based CHRI checks through the SBI. They may make requests using the appropriate application form provided on the SBI’s Criminal History Record Information page. Note that applicants are usually charged certain fees for their requests.

Interested persons may also find arrest information for individuals arrested in Camden County but booked into a state correctional facility using the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) Offender Search WebPage. Searches conducted on the webpage are free, and users may search by SBI number or a subject’s name. Meanwhile, individuals may use the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Inmate Locator portal to find arrest information of individuals who were booked into a federal correctional facility. The portal is searchable by number (BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number) or by name.

Alternatively, record seekers may visit local law enforcement agencies, such as the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and municipal police departments, to inspect or request arrest records they maintain. Depending on how they operate, these agencies may permit free in-person inspection of public arrest records. However, they usually charge certain fees for furnishing copies of public records.

How to Get an Arrest Record Expunged in Camden County

N.J.S.A. 2C:52 governs the process and eligibility requirements for getting arrest records expunged in Camden County. Generally, only certain types of arrest records are eligible for expungement under the code. For instance, an arrest for one (1) indictable offense that resulted in a conviction may be eligible for expungement five (5) years after the defendant completes their sentence and pays applicable fines per N.J.S.A. 2C:52-2. Other types of expungement that may be available to individuals include, but are not limited to:

On the other hand, arrests for the following types of offenses that result in a conviction are ineligible for expungement;

  • Perjury 
  • Arson and related offense
  • Kidnapping
  • Criminal homicide (including manslaughter)
  • Criminal restraint
  • Human trafficking
  • Terrorism 
  • False imprisonment
  • Aggravated criminal sexual contact, or aggravated sexual assault
  • Criminal sexual contact with a minor 
  • Luring or enticing 
  • Robbery 
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Causing or permitting a child to engage in a prohibited sexual act
  • False swearing
  • Selling or manufacturing child pornography

NJ expungement laws are complicated. Thus, Individuals are advised to consult with a licensed attorney to determine whether their arrest record is eligible for expungement. Eligible individuals may apply for expungement online using the NJ Courts eCourts Expungement System. The application process is free, and applicants will need their case number to facilitate the process. Furthermore, they typically log in or register an account to access the portal.

Once an expungement application is approved, a judge will sign an expungement order and transmit it to relevant law enforcement agencies, such as the New Jersey State Police (NJSP). The NJSP is responsible for removing the expunged record from a subject’s criminal history record information (CHRI), which the agency compiles and maintains. How Do You Remove Camden County Arrest Records From the Internet?

For instance, expunged arrest records do not appear in Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) checks conducted through the New Jersey State Police and local law enforcement agencies.
